The Progress and Trends of Die Casting Process and Application

In the traditional die casting process of cold chamber die casting machine, the injection speed falls between 1~3m/sec (gate passing speed is 20~70m/sec), while casting pressure is 20~120MPa. Since metal liquid fills up cavity at high pressure and high speed, most of gases in the cavity does not have enough time to be exhausted and is unavoidable drawn into metal liquid and existed within casting in the form of porosity. As a result, casting cannot conduct heat treatment and welding, resulting in casting mechanical property cannot further increase. Consequently, casting is limited in the application of vital or large complicated loading parts, such as security structural parts of sedan and motorcycle. As these structural parts are equipped with the following characteristics and would be difficult to be made by traditional die casting process: ◎Must join with other structural parts by welding; ◎To ensure its mechanical property, T6, including solid solution heat treatment must be conducted; ◎Being classified as force bearing structural parts that require high ductility; ◎Large work piece
