Seal & Lock Threaded Joints
Add to my favorite
2011-02-23
Of course there are fastenings where part of the work involves preventing the passage of wet or dry fluids through those joints. Myriad assembles like fuel tanks, submersible equipment, fluid power components, compressed air equipment, and installations that need hermitic sealing for everything from severe weather to changes in humidity are prey to leak issues. It’s not possible to list all the applications needing sealing around threads. Preventing those failures is particularly difficult because male to female thread engagement doesn’t produce a metal-to-metal fit. There are tolerances present, and the intentional spacing provides an adequate leak path to permit fluid movement whether the medium is pressurized or static. Variations in joints, materials, tolerances and performance dynamics can exacerbate leakage.
