While main operations refer to wire drawing, straightening, and cutting to length, the secondary operations refer to operations that are done on the bars after the main operations are completed.
Secondary operations include:
Chamfer of bars ends
Facing of bar ends
Drilling a center hole
Turning shoulders
Pointing
Any combination of the above
Most of the parts that are first drawn, straightened and cut will finally go through some kind of secondary operation. The secondary operation can be a operation without chip such as heading, extrusion or thread rolling and it can be an operation that involves material removal.
