According to the database of U.S. Customs, from Jan. through Jun. 2017 the U.S. imported about 1.11 million tons of fasteners (incl. iron nails) from the world, a 5.07% increase from the same period of 2016. If calculated by value (USD), the U.S. imported about USD 2.853 billion worth of fasteners from the world, a 6.73% increase from the same period of 2016. The average value was USD 2.575 per KG, a 1.58% increase from the same period of 2016.  


 
Top 10 export destinations in H1 2017 were: China, Taiwan, Canada, Japan, S. Korea, India, Malaysia, Oman, Germany and Thailand. China and Taiwan, in particular, represented more than 740,000 tons (approx. USD 1.545 billion), which was over 60% of U.S. total fastener import. If calculated by KG, the top 3 countries with the highest increase from the same period of 2016 were Vietnam, Italy and Egypt; if calculated by value, the top 3 countries with the highest increase were Vietnam, Egypt and Thailand.


 
Top 5 product categories in U.S. fastener import were: Other Self-tapping Screws with dia. less than 6mm (7318141060), Other Nuts (7318160085), Cap Screws with dia. more than 6mm (7318158066), Other Collated Iron Nails (7317005507) and Collated Iron Roof Nails with length between 20.6mm and 46.1mm and dia. between 2.5mm and 3.2mm (7317005501). Amongst all these product categories, the product category with the highest total weight increase from the same period of 2016 was Other Collated Iron Nails with 25.4mm in length and less than 1.65mm in diameter (7317005519); if calculated by value, the product category with the highest total value increase from the same period of 2016 was Other Non-threaded Aluminum Articles with dia. more than 6mm (7616107090).
