2011-10-05
To add substantially more value to its products, Taiwan CSC (China Steel Corp.) centers on special alloys (such as titanium and nickel) whose prices are 30 times more than that of the general carbon steel. Earlier this year CSC acquired 70% equity share of Changzhou Xinzhong Precision Alloy Forging Products Co., Ltd. of Walsin Lihwa Corp., changing the company’s name into Changzhou China Steel Precision Materials Co., Ltd. (CSPM), which put into production this July. Today the output of the global titanium alloy products is about 100,000 tons per year. The annual output of CSPM is 2,000 tons and is expected to achieve “full-load” state in two years, reaching 2% of the global market share.
Dr. Wang, Chairman of CSPM indicated, integrated with the advantage of CSC steel rolling technology, CSPM will develop quality special alloys to satisfy the advanced material need of the seven strategic emerging industries of China “12th Five-Year” plan as well as help Taiwan metal product manufacturers acquire high-end material to follow the successful example of “supply creates demand” experience in Taiwan steel industry and further establish a special alloy application industry with global competitiveness.
Fully supported by CSC, CSPM has developed titanium billets and pure titanium ingots which are shipped back to CSC to be rolled into titanium sheets, sputter targets and wires for use in petroleum plants. Meanwhile, CSC wire rod mill smoothly produces size 18mm and 9mm fine wire rods to supply downstream wire drawing process to manufacture nuts, spectacle frames, springs, etc.
CSPM’s product range covers pure titanium, titanium alloy, nickel-based alloy, special stainless steel and die steel, etc. About the production capability, titanium material is 2,000 tons, nickel-based alloy 1,100 tons, and die steel 3,000 tons. The forging billet material will be deliver to CSC, Walsin Lihwa, and other downstream customers to undergo rolling process to thus be sold.
